We gave you a sneak peek at the hanon 20 year anniversary Asics GT-II a few days ago, but that look did little to whet your appetite. Today we’re following that with a complete look and detailed write up on these Asics.

Given their nickname, it’s only fitting that a dark base color is used to represent the night’s sky. Suede and shimmer sheen are used for said upper. The colors seen in the Northern Lights are used intermittently on the leather arches on the quarter panels of each. Details include a speckled midsole heel, multicolor eyelets and a “keep burning” insole, which pays tribute to Hanon’s very special anniversary.

Out of their Global Collection, Asics presents the Onitsuka Tiger Carrack. The Carrack is available in two colorways-beige and navy- for this Spring 2010 season. The low-top shoe possesses a unique design isolating itself from much of the present’s footwear releases.

The navy and beige versions are both available at David Z. The price is $70.

As a further accompaniment to their 2009 fall/winter zodiac theme, ASICS has teamed up with two different parties in StudioAnti and Washio Tomoyuki to have them each create their own Onitsuka Tiger lifestyle X-CALIBER. Sharing a “cat” theme, the original story revolves around an animal race in which the cat finished last and was left out of the zodiac calendar.

The cat story

According to Japanese folklore, the Jade Emperor held a race to determine which animals would represent each sign of the Asian zodiac calendar. Thirteen animals battled against each other to compete for the 12 places available. The cat finished last and didn’t get a place. The legendary zodiac race was the inspiration behind Onitsuka Tiger’s 2009 campaign. To find out more, go to onitsukatiger.com

“I wanted to create what I call the ANTI-cat design – a design which represents the dark and mysterious life of the alley cat. The trainer features urban graffiti camouflage in a drip pattern, rather than the more traditional stripes, as this fits better with the alley cat’s surroundings. I also chose grey nubuck for the material because it’s quite a dirty colour, reminiscent of the grimy conditions in which stray cats live. I love the spontaneous energy of subcultures, something which can be represented visually by flashes and zigzags. So I chose to put a scratch motif on the heel, as a reference to vibrant life in the urban jungle. Of course, it could also represent a scar which a cat has earned from a street fight over food.”

Washio Tomoyuki

This trainer design is based on a fantastical land created by Washio: “In this land, humans go through a special sizechanging portal which makes them smaller than cats, and turns them into soldiers, who then try and take on one legendary feline. To establish the cat’s whereabouts, they follow the red and white spotted underwear which the cat has left behind.”

To pay tribute to the Honolulu Marathon and also the boom of West Coast running, Asics has designed these two pairs of GT-II, dubbed the “Honolulu Marathon” Pack. Each pair is done with a separate color palette, though both draw inspiration from Hawaiian themes.

The brighter pair uses pink for its midsole accent, liner and arches logo. The darker pair uses a black nubuck majority with light blue contrast stitching, which matches the remainder of the upper. Pink is also used here on the liner and the logo on the midsole. Both pairs also get a mixed outsole of black and gum. Both are listed as female releases, but you can always size up.

High Snobiety has paired with footwear designer Ronnie Fieg to design these Asics Gel Lyte IIIs, completing the “Trilogy Project,” from which we’ve already seen the Nice Kicks and Culture Shoq collaborations. We already gave you a preview not too long ago, but now that we get a detailed look, you can make up your mind for good.

The grey patent leather is the first element you notice, as it wraps around the entire shoe, including the toe cap, heel and mid-panel logo areas. Navy blue is used as an accent along the midsole, matching the perforated suede used throughout the upper. Finally, the liner, and “tongue” flaps are done in a salmon hue, setting off the grey and blue. Three color laces, a selling point for many on previous collaborations, are used again here for good measure.

Asics presents two new GT-II’s for Holiday 2009. The running shoe comes in green and purple with lots of use of Tweed on the upper. Furthermore the leather parts on the upper feature extensive laser engraved graphics that are only revealed at a closer look. The sneakers are now available at The Good Will Out.

As you all know (unless you live under a rock), the highly anticipated Nice Kicks x Asics Gel Lyte III will officially be made available this Thursday, October 1st, on Davidz.com. However, to hold you over in such little time, we have spotted a very winter-ready Gel Lyte III available at Hanon.

This particular Gel Lyte III owns a very subtle, low-key color scheme, to say the least. The base is colored mostly in olive green and black, while various orange details appear throughout the side and heel panels. To finish it off, this Gel Lyte III’s grey midsole possesses a blue speckle-like design. As stated earlier, you can purchase this shoe now at Hanon

Japanese retailer Gettry worked with Asics on the Sidekick Pack. The pack consists of two Procourt sneakers from Asics, both coming in vibrating colors. One of them comes with a black upper, all yellow sole and yellow stitching.
The other one comes in a Jamaica color scheme, featuring yellow, green and red on the upper, as well as an all yellow sole. The sneakers are no available for pre-order.

The GT II is a lean and clean classic. True to its sleek lightweight feel, this latest drop from Asics keeps it simple with a predominantly white upper.
What gives it that real zesty zing are the kiwi-fruit speckled laces that tie in nicely with a matching slice of green on the heel. Look out for them at select Asics retailers come December.

The latest colour-up of the ASICS Gel-Lyte III will keep your feet lavender fresh! The smooth indigo and lavender purple paneling contrasts nicely against the tight-knit toe mesh, while the reflective silver accents add to the shoe’s retro-tech feel.
